The week I had to shift my psychotherapy practice to teletherapy due to the COVID-19 pandemic I was lucky to share that sudden and traumatic experience with 16 colleagues from my group practice at Renew Counseling Services. Spread across two offices and several of our homes, we managed through a flurry of texts, phone calls, online chats, video meetings and Intranet posts to update each other on escalating government advisories, as well as the technologies and practices we were using to address them.
That experience made me think of all the solo practitioners out there, and others in small private practices, who didn’t have a team to provide the information, resources and support my office mates were sharing. I want Teletherapy Central to give all therapists a place where we can share information to help us serve clients better and preserve our own sanity in this new world of COVID-19, social isolation and teletherapy.
I’ll post the most useful information I can find about teletherapy, but I hope you will join in the discussion and collaboration too. I invite you to submit questions — whether they concern technology, therapeutic methods, business practices, legal requirements, online etiquette — whatever. I’ll look for answers and seek input from the community of psychotherapists here on Teletherapy Central, then publish the results. Over time, Teletherapy Central will grow into a knowledge base you can search or browse by category.
Thanks for joining the community!
